Well, maybe "solution" in the first case is not materially correct, as it simply involves an age-old mystery solvent without material additives.

It's sometimes so surprisingly easy to ask the wrong question.

Sometimes we may be inadvertently led by our medical advisor to do precisely that, to our detriment, because we may well get an answer inappropriate to our actual circumstances.

This article is so in-our-face that we might think that it couldn't possibly happen, but it's in-our-face for a reason, and not all such encounters are so obvious that the whole idea can be dismissed out of hand.

This bogeyman has been running a long while, and as yet we seem to have no resolution. So I am posting a confrontational title to this article because the issue needs to be settled.

Either Midazolam + Morphine is a kindly way to end a person's life in less discomfort than might otherwise have occurred, or it's not. At worst, it may kill the patient, which doesn't exactly square with "First, do no harm".

What part of "Do no harm" do some people not understand?

OK it's not either/or, it's possible to have both or neither. But it's the emphasis that counts. After all, property is merely a means to an and, and represents control over the thing that is one's property. That control may (or may not) bring a measure of improved happiness (having one's brolly to hand when it's raining cats and dogs) or may not (having it to hand when the sun is shining benevolently upon us).

So do we want property or happiness?

One is control over the physical, the (mostly) inanimate, the stuff we cannot take with us when we pass on to the greater or lesser glory after doing our stint.

The other is the fleeting, the ephemeral, indeed the spiritual attitude of Nirvana that we may perhaps take with us when we pass, and as such is clearly the greatest prize attainable in this earthly realm.

A visit to the dentist isn't (let's face it) something to fill one with enthusiasm.

It rarely brightens the day, and occasionally comes with admonishments about brushing your teeth better, or bad news about needing unforeseen remedial work that (unless you have already purchased an insurance plan) will entail additional expense. 

So if you're lucky you get off with just a bill for the inspection, and if unlucky you get additional expensive appointments to use up your time and pecuniary resources (all of which involve levels of destruction from mild drilling to teeth pulling), with a possible helping of painful humiliation thrown in.

Is Andy Burnham, conveniently waiting in the wings, really a new broom? Was there no other suitable Labour MP already in Parliament?

In my view he's right to say that we have a Parliament that works for "the establishment" (whoever that may be). It doesn't work for the people, it works for whoever controls the political parties, by whatever means legal or otherwise.

And we now see in the "rape gangs" issue some of what that "otherwise" might entail.

Were any current MPs touched by the "Grooming Gangs" issue? Before we re-elect them, we need to know.

A general election isn't going to change that, it would simply delay the inevitable implosion.
