The UN with its Agendas, Goals, and innumerable NGO hangers-on is a mystery to most normal people, who need to spend their time doing normal things like working for a living, putting food on the table, and putting the world to rights down the Dog and Duck.

As such normal people have neither the time nor inclination to wade through the vast library of UN verbiage to try to disentangle the real concepts from the flummery and the truths from the global-speak where all words tend to follow Humpty Dumpty's dictum. 

Happily or unhappily, there are those who would try to educate us in the true meaning of the UN and its Sustainable Development Goals, so if you have a lifetime to spare and are desirous of wasting it in pursuit of very unliterary learning about the meaning of life, global-speak, and overweening power-grabbery,

Martin Geddes, writing from Florida, muses on the contradictions inherent when considering matters of the spirit from the viewpoint of legislation, and matters of legislation from the viewpoint of the spirit (I'm steering clear here of the word "law", since many hold that "law" is not the same as "legislation", but is akin to "God's law" or "natural law" - that's a rabbit hole that I'll leave as an exercise for you dear reader, once you have read and digested the rest of this article 😎).

I have argued in these pages that legislation is simply an artificial intelligence, created by imperfect humans and therefore itself doomed to imperfection. The wonders of life and the universe are far beyond man's current knowledge, therefore we cannot legislate for all possible circumstances - the task will for ever lie beyond our capabilities.

Withe the US Election on a knife-edge (according to some) or about to be stolen (according to others) or about to deliver a Trump landslide of epic proportions (according to yet others), and not to mention the evidence of attendee numbers at the respective Trump and Harris campaign events, I think we in the UK could be forgiven for being totally at sea on this one. Or are we?

So today I offer a viewpoint which may or may not reflect the overall reality - which essentially is that, whatever you think of the candidates standing before the electorate, there are only the two with any realistic chance of election, and one of them will be elected (barring any fantastical hiccup that stymies the whole event - I rule nothing out!).

So as with UK elections, you either do not vote, or you vote for the least worst option, all things considered.

One might believe that the World Bank would have enough bean counters to keep track of its expenditures...

... but maybe one might be wrong about the involvement of bean-counters.

Given that climate finance has been a largely political hot potato seemingly since time immemorial, perhaps after all it's no surprise that politicians have taken their eye off the ball, but is the World Bank controlled by politicians or by bankers?

Bankers one might suppose to be well-versed in the ways of auditing, so it's a bit of a surprise to note this Oxfam report  that uncovers such a gaping hole in the World Bank's climate disbursements.

(But are Oxfam not supposed to be countering famine rather than counting expenditure designed to reduce CO₂ emissions? Are they yet another outfit that has been somehow distracted from their founding purpose?).

As at time of writing, this report is unusually available in full, with no need to sign in.

Essentially it's upbeat overall, and worth reading, even if we may accept that the content represents opinion and may not be entirely 101% factual in all respects. In a world beset on all sides by deceit and distraction, that should be no surprise to anybody.

Who is to sort the truth from the onslaught of mis/dis/mal/duff/fake-information that assails us from all quarters - and has so done for far longer than any of us might care to contemplate?

Even the sainted Julian Assange for Heaven's sake - is nobody above suspicion of complicity, or perhaps merely of galactic-scale misrepresentation?

I think we could all usefully take heed to pick up a few tips and tricks from Ole the expert, who has made the study of fake news into a personal crusade of many years standing... and who still shares much of his insight to the world for free.

In summary, the various hotspots remain active, although hard news remains elusive.

Ukraine is still crumbling, Israel is still trying to ignite WW3, the UK government is still making "news", but with AI and CGI rampant seemingly everywhere, one suspects that at least some of these players are already gone. 

Lots of stuff is supposed to be happening "soon" but "soon" seems to be as elusive as ever. However, "patience is a virtue".

Still, it does seem that with the US hurricanes / "weather warfare" out of the way and FEMA exposed, the next big thing will be (as we are talking about the US) pedophilia as perhaps pushed by P Diddy and G Epstein. When/where paedophilia will come (if at all) is unknown, but perhaps the "special relationship" may turn out to have unexpected connotations.

This may become a historical "document for our times" - it reflects experiences akin to riding an emotional roller-coaster, which for some lucky ones covered just a few recent years; for others, many more years, years of apparent hopelessness in a seemingly futile quest for the means to overturn the governments of "mental occupation" ("govern"=control, "ment"=mind).

When everyone is distracted by the football, the rugby, the juggling of the needs of family against the needs of one or several jobs, the allure of the get-rich-quick schemes, TV,  social media (and worse), "pop" concerts and innumerable events of all kinds...

When everyone is fed the continuous propaganda of the hidden hands that manipulate the politicians of the world, by the media that report only what those manipulators want us to believe, and suppress the truths that they don't want us even to suspect

Apparently the reports reaching us from Israel in the aftermath of the recent attack by Iranian missiles do not adequately present the destruction wrought - "Israel is under new leadership... "
