It has taken 4 years to move from Obsessive Covid Disorder to a point where we may now perhaps indulge in some rational argument about what really happened in 2019-20, and how we might actually more sensibly work in the future.

Leaving aside all the technical virological and counter-measures arguments, it is apparent that the situation management of early 2020 where "the science" met "the government" in a conflicting and fast-changing muddle of overthrown pandemic preparedness and panic (which saw much of the former somehow displaced by much of the latter), this contribution by the good folk at the Global Warming Policy Foundation is, if not completely timely, at least on target.

What has Covid got to do with Global Warming? Both involve serious interaction between "government" and "science", so should be subject to a set ofcommon principles.

It's been a long road travelled largely out of the headlines... perhaps because those who write the headlines didn't want to make any kind of big deal out of it.

The truth is that even where we are today, if freedom of speech had been respected throughout then we probably wouldn't be so far down the road - but freedom of journalism (as opposed to freedom of speech) ie: the freedom to dig for the stories and have them published with appropriate fanfare, has been quietly withdrawn for many years now, without being reported.

From a little local malfeasance we are led right to the heart of government, and even beyond.

Does anybody really understand AI?  Doubtful.

Is AI really exemplified by the AI apps that have so far been released by the Googles and Microsofts of this world for the public to play with?  Very Doubtful.

Are "they" really planning to build an internet of AI that can monitor and control, even generate,  everything we can see and everything we can upload, even (eventually) everything we can think? Tick.

Isn't that insanely technically challenging and probably untestable?  Tick.

And could it work?  Maybe, in parts...

So it will take them for ever to get it to that point? Probably.

The link (if any) between roll out of the jabs and increased levels of death by heart and circulatory disease was (perhaps somewhat grudgingly) debated, but no mention of excess deaths from other causes (such as cancer) which have been reported, and only a ministerial response to "write to" the MPs who raised specific queries.

At this rate of progress we had better all start briefing our kids to ask for the full response "in due course" because we will all be deceased long before those in authority deem it necessary to actually produce the information requested.

With talk of nuclear escalation much in the news these days, ZeroHedge reminds us that a Ukraine-Russia peace plan was reportedly substantially agreed within months of the initial Russian incursion, but that initial agreement was supposedly vetoed by Boris Johnson. Although what it had to do with him isn't at all obvious, it does tend to indicate that Ukraine is not its own master. 

It doesn't say much for Boris Johnson either, although in fairness despite various reports to that effect, I have no proof of his involvement (but why wasn't he involved in facilitating a peace deal?).

Add in widely reported US involvement in the 2014 Maidan revolution, and readers may draw their own conclusions.

It seems reasonable to assume from their name that the Good Law Project is all about good law.

It isn't therefore necessarily about good climate science, but the Government in its all-knowing wisdom has enshrined its binding net zero targets in law, I suppose because that's the only thing they know how to do.

Of course, that doesn't mean to say that the targets will actually be met, but there's a good chance that it won't be this government that's in place when the targets fall due and the lawsuits begin to fly.

Anyway, the Good Law project, mindful no doubt of the sometimes lengthy nature of legal proceedings, has shrewdly got its retribution in first and compelled the government to disclose its assessments of the risks that may bedevil these now legally binding

This topic arouses much one-sided opinion, whichever party (or none) to this long-standing conflict one may support.

On the one hand we have Hamas who inflicted a military incursion on Israel back in early October last, resulting in some deaths and taking a limited number of hostages.

On the other hand we have Israel who in self defence has seemingly set about an unrestricted war on the whole Gaza strip, apparently conflating "Hamas" with the entire Palestinian population so that the latter becomes the target for elimination. 

Yes, it's vastly more complex than these over-simplified statements, but space here prohibits an in-depth analysis even were I capable to provide such a thing.

Much speculation about what may be going on behind the scenes, but little firm news this week.

As always however, worth reading, if only for the revealing videos on what the Israelis really think about Gaza. I think that the ICJ needs to bite the bullet, but they must be under enormous pressure to fade away, because if they do bring in the big G verdict, that gives the citizens of multiple countries all the legal justification they need to stop funding their Israel-supporting governments with tax payments.
