When is an assertion a "fact"?

What is a "fact"?

In law a "fact" is some assertion agreed by both parties to the dispute.

Does that mean it is true and accurate? Either way, it tells us something about the law, and perhaps also about "facts".

Socrates is widely credited with the realisation that "the only thing I know is that I know nothing", and in this day and age when most of what we "know" is gleaned from remote others whom we do not personally "know", this assertion rings more true than ever.

What do the "fact-checkers" know that we do not?!

So our knowledge and beliefs as recognised by each of us are a result of our cognitive faculties.

That's another rabbit hole to explore but today I'll leave it there.

Not so Martin Geddes however - he has gone a step further and invoked another potentially obfuscatory intermediary by getting AI (ChatGPT) to assess how the war for our cognition is being fought in these days of would-be-wouldn't-be enlightenment ...

Yup, it's that weasel word "complex" again. Can AI simplify it all?

Be Ye Never So High, The Law is Above You

Martin Geddes is now making so much use of AI that his productivity of articles is hard to keep up with!

Whether or not this particular article was AI-enabled, it is admirably laid out and clearly explains the precise alleged infractions of the law that pertain to the way that the case against him has been handled.

Now one might think that this is in point of fact a pretty trivial case, so pay up shut up and get on with life - but that isn't so. If the police themselves are not operating lawfully then that really is a very serious issue, and they need to be taken to task.

Martin has documented the whole argument very thoroughly and provided copy of his responses - I don't doubt that anybody in similar position who is prepared to dispute their issue will find much to consider here.

 

 

NFU - Never Fails to Underwhelm?

There are also other sobriquets out there that many may feel inappropriate in polite conversation.

The Daily Sceptic reveals that a story they ran showing how Big Finance may have influenced certain politicians to change the taxation rules on farmers in such a way that Big Finance might better acquire their properties elicited not so much as an acknowledgement from the NFU.

Now one can understand that not everyone wants to get involved with politics, but unhappily politicians don't reciprocate by not wishing to get involved in everyone's affairs, so that's a losing strategy if ever there was one.

Perhaps the farmers were hoping that the NFU would look after their politcal interests for them, thus relieving them of an irksome burden?

So is the NFU merely asleep on the job, or does it really serve the farmers' interests?

On the other hand I am no farmer, so maybe the NFU really is negotiating behind the scenes but doesn't want to go public about it ...

The fall of the twin towers has always been controversial, but officialdom has always been deaf to any argument but their own.

Many believe that the official story was a huge cover-up, and that the disaster was a false flag attack by the CIA in order to persuade the public of the necessity for the planned "War on Terror".

Trump has declared that this event will be reviewed under his leadership.

Former Congressman Curt Weldon gives his side of the 9/11 story. He is but one of many "conspiracy theorists" who had involvement around that time.
