We reported on the Courts and Tribunals Bill, currently being pushed through Parliament (although I don't recall any party manifesto declaring that they would do this?) just recently.

What is it about our governments that they get elected on one set of promises ("We will stop the boats") and then pursue another set entirely ("We will whittle down your constitutional rights to keep you safe" - from inappropriate social media posts perhaps, but certainly not from packed inflatable boats disgorging uninvited migrants at Gosport, nor from early release of serious criminals because our "not-joined-up" government didn't plan and deliver the necessary secure accommodations to hold them, nor from <fill in your own complaints here>).

Have they no shame?

Perhaps there should be a law against it? Let's campaign for the "No New Bill in Parliament that Wasn't in the Manifesto" Bill!

'Fat chance' as they say, but something must be done - this is something, and the only thing that Parliament knows how to do is to legislate, so let's do it!

Now, who will put it in their manifesto at the next election ..?
