This topic is of great import to our future, as we can be sure that the World Wide Web will continue to develop, and if "Big Tech" (and these days we must add "Big Government") have their way it will be to their corporate advantage - and not necessarily to the advantage of "we the people".

On the other hand, I'm guessing that most people might dismiss this topic as too technical, beyond imagination, and thus beyond comprehension. What can any individual person contribute to such a vast technological conundrum?

Does it need to be so?

These days it is very obvious that the internet is not only an information source, it is also used for political messaging, for buying and selling, for censoring of free speech, for "controlling the narrative", and for managing our finances, to name but a few current usages.

If getting to grips with how we use it today is difficult enough, how can we begin to understand the options that exist for using it tomorrow? Happily, there are options, and there are folk out there outside the Big Tech tent who are motivated to explain them to us.
