This site does not do Party Politics - in fact, as regular readers may have noted, we would much rather undo party politics!
Nevertheless we stray today perilously close to "left" vs "right" politics, although I would claim that in fact we are actually talking right vs wrong politics. We are interested in the politics that produces good results for the people, not the politics that produces good results for the vested interests of an ever-expanding civil service and an ever expanding government-at-arms-length which subcontracts all its activities to be implemented (and in practice largely controlled) by the "private sector" (ie: corporate interests of monopolistic tendencies) - and I won't even get started on monetary policy / central banking / planning obfuscation.
Motivation is all! We need a system that sets up the correct motivation for each arm of our democratic system to serve the people in the most efficacious manner at the most affordable cost. Obviously when other motivations dominate, the people's service suffers. That's where we are currently - in our system, the civil service, the politicians, and the judiciary/CPS/police all have perverse motivations incompatible with their service to the people.
So with all that said, I note a thoughtful article in the Daily Sceptic by James Alexander, who reviews the book Return to Growth: How to Fix the Economy by Jon Moynihan.
The fact that some on the "left-right" spectrum will support it, and some dispute it, is in these terms neither here nor there.
Of course the book skates around much else in which governments of all stripes tend to involve themselves (geopolitics, foreign relations, etc) and it doesn't really address the motivational issue as such, so it is by no means a complete work; but as far as it goes, it is a start.

... we must understand propaganda - which essentially is the art of making people and populations wholeheartedly believe something that is absolutely not true, and indeed not in their interests.
It is said that Hitler used propaganda extensively on the German people before and during the second world war, but in truth all wars depend upon propaganda, because fighting wars is not in our normal interests.
It might be thought that all governments ("govern"=control, "ment"=mind) habitually use propaganda to maintain their power over their populations - true or not, certainly the temptation may be hard to resist!
So here is a useful primer, courtesy of Citizens for Free Speech, which attempts to teach us how we might recognise propaganda in the first place.
Whilst pointing up some favourite tricks, this appears to omit the one factor that Joseph Goebbels famously used to great effect in Germany - endless repetition of the false message until it is indelibly imprinted upon the psyche of the masses (plus ignoring and censoring of all counter-messages). Of course, significant control of the media is necessary for this.
Likewise delivery of the messaging within apparently unrelated content (quiz shows, sports, entertainment, "bread and circuses") is helpful, as it may pass unremarked but not ineffective. Clearly a national broadcasting organisation would be ideal for this.
I'm sure you can think of some present-day examples of relentless messaging that have been remarkably successful over recent years, and I am equally certain that a significant number of our ingrained beliefs are still to be exposed as without foundation, and absolutely not in our best interests.
So what to do?
It has been well said that people go mad in herds, but recover their senses individually.
Recovery from propaganda is a long haul, but absolutely necessary. Critical thinking on the part of the individual is a prerequisite.

If you want an AI to take over the world ... but you don't want to pay for it ... how could you get the rest of the world to pay for it for you? Unknowingly?

Of course this is simply a ridiculous conspiracy theory on steroids, but since "nobody knows" who Mr Satoshi (Bitcoin inventor) actually is or was, it does rather leave open the possibility that mining Bitcoin as an algorithm actually being run may just possibly perform a great deal more in practice than simply "mining Bitcoin".
Who's to know?
Therefore, tempting people to run their global AI algorithms for them with the bait of amassing vast wealth in a new kind of currency - a crypto currency - that would be outside the traditional systems of banking and government control - might be exactly what was needed by those-who-would rule-the-world to get their AI control system up and running - for free.
And if, like some, you follow the other ridiculous conspiracy theory sites on the internet that have been postulating for some time that come the revolution, the Three Gorges Dam will be destroyed (why?) (along with the vast "Bitcoin mining" operations allegedly going on beneath it ... and along with various other places of import around the world), one can begin to see that ... well, it's all just so obviously a ridiculous conspiracy theory without any foundation in reality whatsoever.
Isn't it?

Ole Dammegard reviews the state of our world as allegedly run by our democratic institutions of government - yet perhaps in reality by those pesky TLAs and their corrupted or deceived associates in all walks of life.
Who is to sort the truth from the onslaught of mis/dis/mal/duff/fake-information that assails us from all quarters - and has so done for far longer than any of us might care to contemplate?
Even the sainted Julian Assange for Heaven's sake - is nobody above suspicion of complicity, or perhaps merely of galactic-scale misrepresentation?
I think we could all usefully take heed to pick up a few tips and tricks from Ole the expert, who has made the study of fake news into a personal crusade of many years standing ... and who still shares much of his insight to the world for free.
Buckle up for a deep dive into the murky depths of the IFA (Infernal Delusion Machine) ...
