Koch's Postulates. vesicles, exosomes, whatever, don't bombard me with technical terms, just tell me whom I can trust.

Sadly trust is in short supply now because many of us have decided that we cannot any longer simply trust those who say we can trust them.

Dishonesty is endemic. Politicians and estate agents tend to head the list of people that we don't necessarily trust to keep their word, and cowboy builders are legendary.

But politicians are of especial interest as they are supposed to be at the very top of the tree of power, so we must at least consider that being there may be no guide to probity, and suffice it to say that famous and "trusted" politicians have been prosecuted and found guilty of crimes. A number are openly mocked and vilified by many. Alleged crimes include going to war without due cause - for example, in Iraq, where Saddam Hussein was later exonerated of possession of Weapons of Mass Destruction.

So what is there to keep any area of public life free of falsehood? In the end, only public vigilance. Even professional associations, whilst professing the highest standards, do have a natural tendency to protect their membership, who do after all fund the institution.

Nobody in this world is guaranteed to be honest to the point where they will always put public interests before their vested interests. There are always limits and trade-offs. And when the vested interests are huge, who would dare to upset them?

So is it really possible that whole branches of "science" can be built upon dodgy foundations? One would always hope and indeed expect that such dodgyness would be exposed and nipped in the bud by the scientific peer review process (that's what it's there for, amongst other things) but if the rewards for turning a blind eye were big enough ... then it cannot be ruled out.

Dr Mike Yeadon is one who has come out publicly in favour of at least calling for the science of virology to account for itself, and Dr Mark Bailey has gone further, publicly accusing it of having no valid foundation. Not content with publishing on a public (but obscure to most of us) web-site, he has released the first of three videos to explain the matter to the public at large in understandable terms.

We commend this effort to our readers:
