AI is a marvellous tool with many uses, but especially perhaps at this time for the high-level scammers in our world - how so? 

Almost nobody (yet) understands how it works!

So we are all fodder for the scam-artists who want us to believe that AI will "rule the world", "take over all our jobs", "always win on the battlefield" (except maybe against another AI!), be all-knowing, etc etc.

So "is AI really omnipotent and can it replace human beings" is a potentially existential question for us.

It seems to me (as a long-time fan of the TV series in which a loyal team of bickering ex-US Army misfits come together from the "wrong side of the tracks" to right the wrongs of a situation by bravado, deception, cunning and rank ingenuity) that now is the time for the

Martin Geddes is no stranger to entanglements with the law.

It being summer and relatively benign up there (I'm guessing here - it could have been tipping it down, but he doesn't mention that) he has taken a short retreat from the hurly-burly confusion of life in general, in order to sort out the next stage of his spiritual journey, upon which he (I suspect unintentionally) found himself when analysing the logic of his brushes with the judicial system.

Spirituality is not an optional extra in life, it is just that we have to find it for ourselves, and having found it, take our spiritual understanding and advancement upon ourselves.

The war of attrition continues in the Ukraine with threats against the regional nuclear power installations, whilst the DNC (Democratic National Convention) kicks off in the US. Still no overt action by Iran against Israel...   after all, with Israel desperate for more war, why play their game?

Dominic Cummings isn't everybody's cup of tea, but he does (probably) do his own thinking - which may explain why he didn't last long in government.

In his latest substack offering, he digs deep into history to illustrate his points (I am no historian so I won't comment on this section).

He goes on to describe how he feels that the Cabinet Office and PM's Office and indeed the whole edifice of the Civil Service and 'Parliament by political party' are doomed by their own mentality to fail, and will indeed fight off all comers in order to continue that failure (after all, who is to hold them accountable?).

A straw in the wind?

I suppose the only surprise here is that it took them so long. But since when were deluded politicians quick to respond to reality?

For some time now it has been clear as day that Germany's interests are to cut its ties to the West and join the BRICS, where it can have access to the relatively inexpensive gas oil and markets that its industries need to survive, recover, and ultimately thrive once more.

Of course it would take most of Eastern (and quite possibly Western!) Europe with it, so it's not a trivial exercise, but given that Russia has shown itself to be by far the most effective military power in its confrontation with NATO, and geopolitical power in its pivotal contribution to building the BRICS, what conceivable advantage does EU/NATO membership confer on Germany that BRICS would not?

Well, that's my point, and one suspects, his point too.

Sadly he may be deploying the wrong weapons in appealing to reason and logic - today's war on the people is waged by the deployment of ill-defined labels, the pressing of similarly ill-defined "hot buttons", and the stoking of unthinking emotions to boiling-point.

Still, it's good for us old-fangled folk to know that there are still those for whom calm reasoning, a logical approach, and a careful exposition of the argument are practices appropriate for public discourse.

We on this site have (with reasonable consistency) featured the work of Martin Geddes who has undertaken the tasks of (a) spiritual renewal and (b) push-back against unlawful authoritarian usurpation of powers in violation of our constitution (not necessarily in that order!)... whilst freely publishing for our benefit the processes, hurdles, and obfuscations that he has encountered.

He has chosen a hard road, and  looks forward to a time when such abuses of power are brought to book.

Many of us hope and pray that he is correct and that that time will soon come. Meanwhile we all get by as best we may, avoiding conflict as best we can, and picking those battles that we may best address - no man can do everything.

Scott isn't noted for his restraint when discussing the fundamentals, and the fundamentals here are stark. He doesn't tip-toe around the issues here, nor should we.

America has a great deal to do before the world comes out on the other side of its current troubles, and I don't doubt that Scott will be kept busy telling his truth for some time yet.

Fortune and Freedom's Nick Hubble challenged his readers to suggest how the Government-Bank-of-England should be persuaded to balance the national budget, stop printing money, and abolish inflation.

Lots of suggestions ensued... but none seemed to offer much hope.

"Our" NHS has become such a byword for IPE (inefficiency, perversity, and evil) that I hesitate to publish anything any more about this great national organ of waste and dashed hopes, but it does seem necessary to remind people occasionally that any trust beyond the fixing of minor emergencies may be misplaced, and even most minor emergencies may be better fixed at home with a little forethought.

That's not to say that there are no good people left in the service, but like all bureaucracies it is run by rules regulations and protocols dictated by "managers" who have no clinical expertise, or by remote expert groups who may display affinities for funding from pharmaceutical producers that may not be aligned with clinical best outcomes.

It has now become so big, so removed from the patient, and so devoted to inappropriate funding that the advent of a new government
